In the space where there was the Garden Hall of Passos Manuel, the building of the Oporto Coliseu began to be built. With its modern and avant-garde architecture, the Coliseu was inaugurated in 1942 and is considered one of the largest theaters of the country, hosting events such as music, ballet, theater, opera, circus and cinema.
In the 1990s, a fire of undetermined origin destroyed part of the stage, dressing rooms and main hall, reopening in 1996 after its rehabilitation.
In 2015 the Coliseu started to house the school Balleteatro, becoming the company to be resident of the house.
In 2012 it was classified as a Monument of Public Interest.
