The glass and iron building from the industrial age dates from 1885 and, as the Bolhão market, aimed to move the riverside's old market place's great confusion from it. However, the market never did fulfill its purpose, such was the merchant’s reluctant will to leave the old market place.
Then a new life began for it, with a cultural purpose, years later when it was used for exhibitions and fairs. But its biggest transition would come in 2010. That was the year that the building had some restoration works and was adapted to host the Hard Club.
Today the old market offers daily concerts, theater, cinema, fairs performances and educational, touristic, and other activities to the public, it also has a café, bar and restaurant, reinvigorating the old Praça do Infante.
