The Freixo Bridge is the bridge located more upstream of the Douro River, at the end of the city, and is authored by Professor António Reis and Engineer Daniel de Sousa.
This road bridge was inaugurated in 1995 and built to reduce traffic congestion on the Arrábida Bridge and the D. Luís Bridge, particularly notorious in the 1980s.
The Freixo Bridge is considered a double bridge, since it is actually constituted by two bridges, 10cm apart, which are composed of eight transit lines (four in the same direction).
