Located on Leça Beach, the Swimming Pool is a set of salt water pools, fed by sea water.
Built between 1960 and 1966, it is one of the first projects of the Siza Vieira architect, making it one of the most sought after and visited architectural spaces in the city.
Sometimes being overlooked by those who pass by on the street, the Swimming Pool is inserted in the rocks, creating an atmosphere of harmony between the sea, rocks, sand and public road, thus showing how architecture can be adapt to the surrounding environment.
Considered in 2006 a National Monument, the project includes two saltwater swimming pools (one for children only), locker rooms and changing rooms and a bar/cafeteria.
Currently is closed for rehabilitation works. It is expected that these works - under the responsibility of the Municipality of Matosinhos and accompanied by the architect Siza Vieira, author of the project - will continue until the summer of 2020.
